Mount your gas springs 'rod down'

Always remember: 'Rod down' is the preferred orientation for mounting a gas spring

When choosing where the optimum position to place a gas spring you should where possible allow it to be orientated rod down throughout its entire actuation. The main reasons reasons for this are:

  • In order to achieve the damping 'cushion' at the end of the gas spring's stroke, the piston assembly inside the spring must travel through oil at the end of the stroke.
  • 'Rod down' orientation ensures that the oil is in the correct location for full damping to occur.
  • Mounting a gas spring 'rod down' also means that the rod and sealing components are lubricated with every stroke of the gas spring. This reduces seal wear and helps inhibit corrossion
